Post Procedure Preparations: Discharge Instructions

DISCHARGE INSTRUCTIONS WILL BE REVIEWED WITH YOU AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

  • You will be called by a SpineCare DE staff member 24 hours after your procedure to check on your status.

  • If you have received sedation, you may not drive yourself home. You will be discharged to the care of your designated responsible adult.

  • Continue your usual diet.

  • Activity: rest on the day of your procedure. You may resume your usual activities on the day following your procedure. Be sure to continue any precautions previously given to you such as avoiding heavy lifting or frequent bending.

  • Continue your previous medications.

  • Call your doctor if any of the following occur:

    1. Fever
    2. Severe headaches
    3. Prolonged hiccups
    4. Inability to move
    5. Inability to urinate or have a bowel movement
    6. Swelling or drainage from the needle site

    We recommend that you contact the physician who performed your procedure:

  • Apply ice to the site of the needle puncture for 30 minutes three times a day for two days.

  • Do NOT bathe or shower for 12 hours, leave Band-Aid on for 24 hours.
